Two years ago I started to stalk eBay and buy matching Speedhut gauges. I also found a nice gauge bezel and got started o n making a new gauge cluster.

This is how it turned out after many hours of paint, cutting, wiring, more wiring and finally some wiring.

It does not look perfect, it does not look as good as I was hoping and I am already contemplating removing it all and redoing it. One the other hand, the gauges all work, it’s an improvement over what was there and I can finally see the gauges at night and tell him much fuel is in the tank without having to do math, so I guess it will do.

I still need an adapter for the temp gauge and a different oil pressure sender, but those are on the way and easy fixes.

Next project will be carpet, I think, then on to new window regulators and door cards.

Looks pretty darn good to me!  I have a G-Body gauge cluster with tach/speedo/oil temp/water temp on the shelf that eventually I will try to put in to replace my ugly stock wiiiiiide sweep speedo and idiot lights. I am dreading it because I know it will be a pain and I’m not even sure they’ll work once they’re in.

My operable descriptor is tidy and yours looks plenty of tidy . If I can rate the work of my hands as very tidy and entirely functional, then I sign myself off.

I learnt to drive with the wide-swept speedo and there’s a quaint retroness about it. If it functions properly, that is...

At 70 MPH mine has at least a 10% bounce. At that speed, if a cop pulled me over and asked if I knew how fast I was going, the best I could tell them would be “someplace between 65 and 75.”  :)

The cheapness of the stock gauge cluster is crazy. The printed circuit board, the pins that the gauges connect to, it’s all just so cheap. I had to rake a dremel to the bezel to get the gauges to fit and I covered the stock bezel with a flat piece of plastic which I them drilled the holes in for the gauges. At any rate, with a few final tweaks it will be complete and I can move  on to the next project.
